Kirk is a professional interpretive naturalist and national award winning writer living in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. He's been working teaching and interpreting natural history for over a decade. He joined the National Association for Interpretation in 1996 and is a Certified Interpretive Guide. He is currently the Outreach Coordinator and an Interpretive Naturalist for the Lee & Rose Warner Nature Center in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota which is part of the Science Museum of Minnesota.
He is an alumni of the University of Minnesota with bachelor's of science degree in Environmental Studies, Youth Development and Outdoor Program Management. Kirk's past work experience includes teaching at Tamarack Nature Center and Underwater World, facilitating adventure learning, environmental education and team building programs at YMCA Camp Ihduhapi, being the Program Director at Camp Elk River for The Girl Scout Council of Greater Minneapolis, and managing youth development and enrichment programs for St. Louis Park Schools. He's a former board member and newsletter editor of the Minnesota Naturalists' Association.
While interested in all aspects of natural history, his particular areas of interest include ornithology, paleontology, and astronomy.
In addition to The Twin Cities Naturalist, Kirk writes regular columns for the National Association of Interpretation's Legacy Magazine and has written for various other magazines and newspapers.
